Volunteer with Hospice — Every Hour Helps Someone in Need

Volunteers are an important part of our hospice care team at 1st Care Palliative and Hospice. Each visit, each conversation, and each shared moment can bring comfort and encouragement to individuals and families facing end-of-life challenges. Your presence may seem simple, but to our patients, it means a great deal.

At 1st Care, we take time to learn about you—your interests, skills, and passions so we can thoughtfully match volunteers with patients in a way that supports meaningful connection. Whether through quiet companionship, storytelling, music, or shared hobbies, volunteers can ease loneliness, lift spirits, and offer a sense of comfort that goes beyond clinical care.

Our volunteers do not provide direct medical support or make clinical decisions. Instead, they serve as an extra layer of support, bringing warmth, attentiveness, and presence. For many families, a volunteer’s visit brings welcome relief, allowing them a moment to rest while knowing their loved one is not alone.

What Volunteers May Offer

  • Companionship and conversation
  • Reading, storytelling, or letter writing
  • Playing games, listening to music, or crafting
  • Emotional support through presence and empathy
  • Sharing hobbies or assisting with small tasks
  • Garden or yard help (as appropriate)
  • Contributing handmade items like quilts, cards, or memory books
  • Participation in grief support or community events
